What Really Happens During a Mediumship Reading?
If you've never had a mediumship reading before, it's completely normal to wonder what actually happens.
Will your person come through? Will the medium know things you haven't told them? Are you supposed to ask questions? What if you don't recognize something right away?
And maybe the biggest question of all:
How does this even work?
Mediumship can feel mysterious from the outside. But the experience itself is often much simpler (and much more natural) than people expect.
First, You Don't Have to "Do" Anything
You don't need to prepare a list of names. You don't need to bring photographs or tell me who you're hoping to hear from. And you definitely don't need to know the right thing to say.
In fact, I prefer to know as little as possible before we begin.
Your job is simply to show up.
Mine is to listen.
When I connect with Spirit, I'm paying attention to information that comes through in different ways — impressions, images, words, memories, physical sensations, personality traits and sometimes things that are difficult to describe until they're happening.
I share what I receive, and together we begin to understand who is communicating and what they're trying to say.
How Does Someone in Spirit Come Through?
Not every connection begins with a dramatic declaration of a name.
Sometimes it starts with a personality.
A relationship.
The feeling of an illness or a particular way someone passed.
A favorite place. An inside joke. A habit that drove everyone crazy. Something they always wore. A memory you haven't thought about in years.
The details begin to build.
Think of it less like answering a phone call and more like putting together pieces of a story.
One piece might not mean much on its own. But then another arrives. And another.
Until suddenly, you know exactly who we're talking about.
Evidence Matters
For me, mediumship isn't simply about saying that someone you love is "around you."
I want to give you something you can recognize.
That might be information about who they were, your relationship with them, something surrounding their passing, a shared memory or something happening in your life now.
Those details matter because they're what make the connection personal.
Anyone can tell you that your loved ones are with you.
Mediumship should feel more specific than that.
It should feel like them.
What If Something Doesn't Make Sense?
Say so.
Seriously.
You don't have to make anything fit, and I don't want you searching for a connection just because I've said something.
Sometimes information makes immediate sense. Sometimes it doesn't.
And every once in a while, something from a reading makes sense hours, days or even weeks later when you speak with another family member or suddenly remember something you'd forgotten.
But during the reading, a simple "I don't know" is perfectly okay.
My job isn't to convince you.
My job is to tell you what I'm receiving as clearly and honestly as I can.
Can You Choose Who Comes Through?
This is probably one of the questions I'm asked most often.
The short answer?
Not exactly.
You can absolutely come into a reading hoping to connect with someone specific, and very often that person does communicate.
But mediumship isn't something I control like choosing a contact from a phone.
I can't promise who will come through, how they'll communicate or exactly what they'll want to talk about.
And strangely enough, that's part of what makes it meaningful.
The connection isn't scripted.
What Does Spirit Actually Talk About?
Sometimes it's the big things.
Love. Forgiveness. Grief. The circumstances surrounding someone's passing. Things that were left unsaid.
And sometimes?
It's incredibly ordinary.
The chair no one is allowed to sit in.
The recipe you still make.
The song that keeps playing at exactly the right moment.
The ridiculous nickname nobody outside your family would understand.
Those seemingly small details can become some of the most meaningful moments in a reading because they remind us that our relationships weren't made only of life's biggest events.
They were made of everyday moments.
And those matter too.
A Reading Isn't About Predicting Your Entire Future
Mediumship and psychic work can overlap, but they're not exactly the same thing.
Mediumship focuses on communication with those who have passed.
Psychic information focuses more on you — your life, relationships, choices, patterns and possibilities.
Sometimes both naturally show up in the same reading.
But neither is about handing over control of your life or telling you exactly what will happen next.
You still have choices.
You still have free will.
A reading can offer perspective, validation and sometimes a different way of seeing what you're moving through.
But your life is still yours to live.
And Sometimes, It's Just About Knowing
People come to mediumship readings for all kinds of reasons.
Some are grieving deeply.
Some have questions.
Some are skeptical but curious.
And some simply miss someone.
There doesn't always have to be a huge message waiting on the other side.
Sometimes the most powerful part of a reading is much quieter than that.
A familiar personality.
A memory you recognize instantly.
A detail no one else would think was important.
A moment that makes you laugh when you expected to cry.
And for just a little while, the distance between here and there doesn't feel quite so big.
Maybe that's the part of mediumship that's hardest to explain.
You don't always walk away with every answer.
But sometimes you walk away feeling a little more certain that love doesn't disappear simply because someone does.
