How Do You Know When Spirit is Near?
Sometimes spirit is loud.
But more often, it isn’t.
It’s a song that plays at exactly the right moment. A dream that feels different from every other dream. A familiar scent in an empty room. A thought that seems to arrive from somewhere other than your own mind.
And almost immediately, we explain it away.
That was weird.
Probably just a coincidence.
I’m imagining things.
Maybe.
But sometimes, the things we are quickest to dismiss are the very things worth paying attention to.
Here are some ways spirit may be trying to get your attention.
The Things That Repeat
You keep seeing the same thing.
A number. A name. A symbol. A certain animal. A phrase.
Once might mean nothing. But when something keeps appearing — especially during moments when you're thinking about someone who has passed, notice it.
Spirit communication can work through repetition. Not because every feather or repeating number has a universal meaning, but because repetition gets our attention.
Instead of asking What does this symbol mean? try asking:
What does it mean to me?
A song finds you at exactly the right moment.
Maybe it's a song connected to someone you lost. Maybe the lyrics answer something you were just thinking about. Or maybe you haven't heard it in years, and suddenly it plays while that person is heavily on your mind.
Could it be coincidence? Of course.
But sometimes the timing is the message.
The Things You Feel
A dream feels different.
Most dreams fade quickly. Some don't.
You may remember exactly what your loved one looked like, what they said, or simply how it felt to be with them. Sometimes nothing dramatic happens at all. They're simply there.
Pay attention to what remains with you after you wake up.
A familiar scent appears out of nowhere.
Perfume. Cigarette smoke. Coffee. Flowers. Aftershave. Someone's cooking.
Sometimes a familiar scent appears when there's no obvious source for it. And often, before we've had time to analyze it, we already know exactly who it reminds us of.
Notice that first thought.
You suddenly feel like someone is there.
This usually isn't an apparition at the end of the bed.
It can be much quieter than that. A sudden warmth, goosebumps, a feeling of comfort, or simply the unmistakable sense that you aren't alone.
Sometimes you don't see anything.
You just know.
The Things That Stop You
Something happens at an oddly perfect time.
You ask for reassurance and something immediately catches your attention. You're having a difficult day and see something connected to the person you wish you could call.
There are coincidences that make you shrug.
And then there are coincidences that make you stop.
Pay attention to the ones that make you stop.
A thought comes seemingly out of nowhere.
You're doing something completely unrelated and suddenly think of someone who has passed.
Instead of brushing it aside, pause.
What were you thinking about just before they came to mind? What do you feel? Does another thought, word, memory or image follow?
What feels like a random thought can sometimes be the beginning of communication, but we're often moving too quickly to notice.
So… was it really a sign?
This is usually the question underneath all the others.
How do I know I'm not making it up?
The truth is, you may not always know.
And you don't need to turn every feather, number or flickering light into a message from the other side. Discernment matters.
But so does allowing yourself to notice.
If something makes you immediately think of someone you love, brings unexpected comfort, happens with remarkable timing, or keeps repeating until you finally pay attention. You don't have to talk yourself out of the experience.
You can simply say:
I noticed.
Because the more you begin paying attention to the quiet things, the easier they become to recognize.
Spirit doesn't always shout.
Sometimes it whispers.
Listen closely.
